Encouragement

Tie a Knot and Hang On

The last few weeks have not been rough, they have been bad.  Just plain old bad.  Out of nowhere, our 11yo’s chronic medical condtions suddenly went from moderate to severe.   From day to day I just never know if we’re going to get any schooling done.  Or housework.  Or make it to church.  Or keep up with a blog. (Have you noticed that the AHE blog has been extra especially sparse lately?)

But this is not about me.  It’s about you.  Yes, you.  We’re not the only household having a difficult run of things.   Some of you are caring for a dying family member.  Or dealing with a financial crisis.  Or a failing marriage.   Or __________ ( just fill in the blank with whatever is weighing heavy on your heart.)

I want to tell you to hang on.  Tie a knot in the promises of God and hang on.  Hang on to the promises of God as tightly as you can.  My knot is tied tightly around Joel 2:25,26.

 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten,

the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm,

my great army which I sent among you.

And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied,

and praise the name of the Lord your God,

that hath dealt wondrously with you:

and my people shall never be ashamed.

Joel 2:25,26

God is continually sending me beautiful evidence that He indeed is restoring the years that the locusts of childhood cancer and other medical condtions have taken from our family.   Restoring my broken spirit.  Restoring my heart.   Evidence that helps me continue to hang on.

Hang on dear friend, God really does love you.  Search the promises of the Bible and then hang on to them.  As tightly as you can.  I’m happy to share my ‘knot verse’ with you if you need one.

Do you have a favorite ‘knot verse’?  Share it with me.  I know for sure that I’m not the only one who would love to hear about the Scriptures that give you courage.

  1. Oh Ann!
    I have noticed, and have been wondering about your family! Will be praying for all. Thank you for your verse. One of my favorite “knot verses” is Psalm 121.

    Psalm 121
    A song of ascents.

    1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
    2 My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
    3 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
    4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
    5 The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
    6 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
    7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
    8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

    Maybe we can make a list of “Knot Verses” to encourage each other!

  2. Ann, your “knot verse” is exactly what I needed to hear today. Thanks for sharing it. I can definitely relate to the lost years experience. I am so thankful that God can indeed restore those years! I’m praying for your family as well.

    My “knot verse” is Jeremiah 31: 3 – 5:

    “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
    Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets and shall go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
    Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.”

    Blessings,
    Michelle

I love this promise Isaiah 43:18,19 Do not remember the former things nor consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth, shall you not know it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert! Our God is able we will put our faith and trust in Him for He loves us more than we can imagine!
