The AHE Handbook offers Adventist homeschoolers guidance in conducting their home education. The Handbook also offers information related to the resources available to homeschoolers and what they can expect with materials so that YOU can make informative choices before purchasing items for your children’s education.
Our 25th edition of the handbook is in the revision stage of production. So please, check back and watch for more details as they become available!
May 06, 2010 Update:
As you know we are revising the current handbook. I’ll admit the process is going a little slower than anticipated, however, we are steadily making progress. Please realize that the updates are being done primarily by two pregnant women, who both deal with daily ups and downs of pregnancy and who are both homeschooling their own families. Your prayers for our health and the progress of the AHE Handbook would be greatly appreciated!
We have some big plans for the entire handbook to be updated, however it will come in steps. We’ve had many requests for a printed book, but the cost of printing the current book is too expensive for most of our members to handle. Also, with so much content in the current handbook being changeable from year to year, it makes updates expensive for everyone. To combat some of these issues, we are planning to “split” the information up into two different books. One that is the mainstay handbook that can be printed, not needing yearly updates, and another that will deal with the changing resources and curriculum that are available to us.
Step one is to divide the current handbook into two sections that are the informational handbook and the resource/curriculum guide. The informational “handbook” will then be focused on, updated and organized to create a book that can be affordably printed. This is the step we are currently working on.
Step two is to organize the resource section into a smaller temporary E-book that contains the current resource information, knowing this is an important part of the handbook for many families so they can make choices and find resources for their family’s curriculum.
Step three is to create a newly updated Resource/Curriculum E-book that will contain more details and more resources than we currently have in our handbook. It will be an E-book, because updates will need to be made yearly to update changing addresses, phone numbers and websites. Also, adding new resources each year will be a priority for this book so that we are more current with the available resources to us.
Our current goal for Step One is to have the Handbook available by E-book by the end of June. This is a goal and dependent on favorable circumstances of all the volunteers helping with the project. Once the handbook is finalized, we will research our printing options and hope to have a print copy out by the end of the summer.
Step Two will take a little bit of reorganization, but will likely not be so hard to organize as we do not plan to change much information, other than needed updates at this time. (such as address changes) This is a temporary book until the Resource/Curriculum E-book can be revised. It should come out either the same time as the Handbook or shortly thereafter. The revised version (Step 3) of this half of the project will likely be available sometime next year, 2011.
In the meantime, feel free to join our Email groups or the Newsletter as there is a wealth of information being shared between families.
